Jazzy explains the growing popularity of home schooling

Cuffy asked Jazzy, “Jazzy, why do you think there are so many people in America home schooling their children?” I, your superbly educated Jazzy Cat, replied, “Cuffy, the incident where that radical leftist anti-American high school teacher in Colorado said those outrageous thinks about his own country, people, and our economic system is just the latest in a long list of reasons why traditional Americans no longer trust the public school system in this country. The following is a list of three quotes this teacher (I use the term loosely) made to his class.”

1. Where in this definition does it say anything about capitalism is an economic system that will provide everybody in the world with the basic needs that they need? Is that part of the system? Do you see how this economic system is at odds with humanity, at odds with caring and compassion, it's at odds with human rights?

2. When Al-Qaeda attacked America on September 11th, in their view they're not attacking innocent people, okay? The CIA has an office in the World Trade Center. Pentagon is a military target. The White House was a military target. Congress is a military target.
3. To many Americans, that flag is no different than the Nazi flag or the Confederate flag it. It represents people that came and stole their land, lied, brought disease, rape, pillage, destruction, et cetera.

“These comments speak for themselves. It is bad enough for a goof-ball like Ward Churchhill to make such comments, but when a high school teacher makes them it is beyond unacceptable.”

Jel,
Thanks for your visit. I read on your blog where you liked foggy photos. I will try to post some more foggy ones soon. That sure is a big ole dog over on your site. Our ole guard dog Chief is also big, but a well timed hiss can intimidate him....

You know, I don't altogether disagree with you. I think this teacher's tirade was inappropriate. He could have made his point in a much less inflamatory manner. He obviously allowed emotion to get the best of him.

There is some truth to what he says about how some people may look upon the American flag.

Europeans making landfall on the shores of north america did in fact bring disease and destruction to native americans. Over 90% of native populations succumbed to a variety of diseases brought by Europeans to which they had no natural immunity.

Good ole Chris Columbus began the slave trade in 1493, first from the new world back to Europe, and later from Africa back to the new world.

While our economic system is probably the best thing going, it still has glaring inequities.

Americans are not god's gift to the world in many people's eyes. While I think that Osama and his cohorts are nothing more than mass murderers, there are reasons why we have come to this pass. We are not hated by millions of people throughout the world for no reason.

Terry,
You said.....
(Americans are not god's gift to the world in many people's eyes.)
Being an atheist, what God are you talking about?

Our economic system has freedom, opportunity, and prosperity. See my Dec. 15 post where I quote directly from a socialist website and show where they admit these facts yet still want socialism. If we could all just be equally miserable and poor together, I believe these people would be happy.

What god? Your's of course.

Are you suggesting that under our economic system that there is NO misery or poverty? The freedom, opportunity and prosperity available in the US is relative. Again, I believe that it is likely better than most anywhere else, but it's far from perfect. What does your average corporate CEO do to earn a thousand times more than the average employee of the firm? Such inequities should be challenged. Dissent is the right of every citizen. Dissenting does not render them traitors. Remember, our own founding fathers were considered by many to be traitors. At the time and by comparison to most European countries, pre-revolutionary England was a bastion of democracy and capitalistic zeal. But there were inequities and abuses. I'm certainly NOT suggesting revolution. I believe that it is vital that we all work within the system. But that system has to allow for argument and dissent. Many of the steps taken by the current administration in its "war against terror" has the effect of curtailing those rights. Once such rights are denied, it will be very difficult to ever get them back.

I think the Colorado teacher would likely qualify under my rather broad definition as a "nutball." Had he lost the venom and articulated his position better, there would probably not have been the uproar that came after. To suggest that he should not have done this in the classroom is wrong, though. Presenting the political status quo in the classroom is certainly not questioned. Shouldn't our kids at least be made aware that there are other viewpoints? Just as you argue regarding ID?

By the way, as I've said repeatedly, all of your pics are great. It would be nice if your other respondents would comment on your posts, though, not just the photos.

Terry,
What a CEO earns is the business of the stockholders and the board of directors only. It is not the government nor anyone else's business. The inexpensive goods and services that we enjoy in this country are a result of the competitive free enterprise system.

Competition in a free enterprise system will provide this. A government controlled nationalized socialistic system will fail 100% of the time. Not that you are for socialism, but do you really believe Microsoft (as an example) and what they have delivered would have happened under a socialistic system?

I just do not understand why that Col. teacher or anyone cannot see the obvious about what it is that produces goods and services. It is called FREEDOM and the INCENTIVE to produce wealth. Everyone benefits. If there is no incentive and freedom to produce, then people do not produce.

The goal should be to educate and help everyone access our economic system and better themselves rather than be angry at and try to tear down those that have already achieved success through their education and abilities.
