Jazzy explains the basic errors in free grace theology

Cuffy asked Jazzy, “Jazzy, what is this free grace theology you have been reading about on the internet?” I, your reformed Jazzy Cat, replied, “Cuffy, as near as I can determine the free grace theology is basically antinomianism theology that is sometimes referred to as the carnal Christian concept. It is a belief that faith does not result in a changed life that seeks to obey Jesus and follow him as Lord. It is unbiblical and the subject is covered in Photo Meditation #25. Simply click on the Photo Meditation link directly below. I believe the basic cause of this kind of thinking is a failure to understand two Biblical principles. First, there is a failure to understand the depravity of man and the extent of original sin. This leads to the second reason, which is a failure to understand the resulting change a person experiences when he is born again (Photo Med. #5) or regenerated by the Holy Spirit. In short, there is a failure to understand the depth of the fall and also the dramatic spiritual change of the rebirth.

if I understand correctly grace theology:
1) Faith is enough
2) You can still ignore God's laws

standard christian doctrine:
1) Faith is enough
2) Faith will, in fact, cause you to try and live a better life in line with God and Jesus.
Its not that you must obey god's laws, but rather that your faith will make you want to obey gods laws as best you can.

Reformed or reformation theology holds that God's grace through regeneration (born again) is from God and the changed heart that results will cause a person to want to follow Jesus though not perfectly. Faith is the instrument for receiving this grace and is a gift as well. Eph. 2:8-10 sums this up pretty well. My Photo Meditations that are linked at bottom of every post sums up the essential doctrines.

Jazzycat,

You wrote, "Reformed or reformation theology holds that God's grace through regeneration (born again) is from God and the changed heart that results will cause a person to want to follow Jesus though not perfectly."

Why, according to Reformed theology, is God's work in regeneration not perfect, i.e., why don't we follow Jesus perfectly?

Hi solifidian,
After regeneration, comes faith, then justification followed by sanctification. Perfection comes only at glorification which does not happen in this life. See Romans 7:18,23, Philip 3:12, 1 John 1:10, Gal 5:17, 1 peter 2:11 for verses on why we don't follow Jesus perfectly.

I look forward to your future posts on your site.

Thanks for the visit

Jazzycat,

Thanks for the reply. So if you had to summarize the teaching of the verses you posted, what are they saying as to why perfection does not come in this life?

Solifidian,
These verses verify that perfection is not achievable in this life. They do not speak to why God did not make it possible. I believe that Deut. 29:29 about the secret things of God may be all we have on this matter. I would be interested in your thinking as to why it is not possible.
