For now, children in Ridgeland School District 122 will celebrate fall festival instead of Halloween and winter festival instead of Christmas.
Let’s see if I have this right. The concerns of an Arab-American trumps 200 years of American Christian tradition and the rights of Americans that have been born here or assimilated into American culture! If this is the way this school district is being managed, it makes one wonder what is being taught. Actually, I think I have a pretty good idea.
Any thoughts?

I remember reading a forward a long time ago that talked about this. We go so far not to offend the Muslim, the Atheist, the Hindu, the Jew, and everyone else that in the process my rights as a Christian and American are violated. I'm offended that we have to rename my Christian holiday, but does anybody else care? Nope! If I were offended by Yom Kipper or Ramadan, would "they" change the name? Nope! Why should they?

Well said. The double standard is perplexing to say the least.
My sister teaches in the Baltimore city school system. She is a good teacher, but not a born again Christian.
I asked if she could teach her kids about Christmas, and why Jesus came. Or about Easter?
She said they don't allow it. Yet they can freely discuss all other religions, from A to Z.
Why? I asked her. She said because the name of Jesus causes to much strife.
Very telling, don't you think.
Baltimore is getting worse and worse.

Honestly, this is why I don't listen to talk radio anymore. Since my first listen to Rush Limbaugh in 1988 liberals have managed to make my blood boil. I can't take their demonically inspired logic anymore. I hate their garbage with a passion, I really do...
Wow, Oak Lawn is about half-an-hour from where I live!
As a home educators, we do not have this problem in my children's local "school" now, but I keep hearing cases where public school officials are aggressively poking their noses where they don't belong.
If I had my kids in the public school system, and they came home talking about winter festival instead of Jesus' birthday, I don't think I would be too worked-up about it, but I'd probably just laugh and explain the origins of the holiday, and that as Christians, we will increasingly be seen as peculiar by a sinful world's system. Consequently, (and correctly) it is up to the Christians to shine the light of truth into the world; we cannot expect them to be lightbearers for us.
The verse you selected (Proverbs 16:22) can certainly be applied here.

Of course, I'm *not* saying that, as beleivers, we shouldn't be about the business of spreading the gospel; we should be obedient to our Lord's commands. But we can rest in Him and trust that He is carrying out His ultimate plan.
