Sunday Bible lesson on being born again

I have been wondering lately about the different theologies that hold that sinners come to faith in Christ through their own free will and then are regenerated by the Holy Spirit. Free grace theology and Arminian theology hold to this view. My questions would be as follows: If a sinner comes to true faith by his own free will, why does he need to be regenerated? If he has been saved and secured in a saving relationship with Jesus Christ, why does he need the further work of regeneration? What further benefit is conferred upon a saved sinner after salvation has been secured? This does not make sense. The Biblical and logical position is that regeneration from God occurs before sinners come to faith in Jesus Christ. See Photo Meditation #5 Born Again for more explanation on the doctrine of regeneration.

Hi right wing gene,
Your answer is correct and it occurs before a sinner responds with faith. Hence faith is a gift. Eph. 2:8-9

I really liked your site.
